James Webb Space Telescope arrives in French Guiana ahead of launch14. 10. 2021
The James Webb Space Telescope arrived in French Guiana on a cargo ship on Tuesday (Oct. 12), wrapping up a 16-day 5,800 miles (9,300 kilometers) long ocean voyage. After launch, the telescope will head to the Earth-sun Lagrange Point 2 for a planned 10 years long mission. JWST will provide improved infrared resolution and sensitivity over Hubble, and will enable a broad range of investigations across the fields of astronomy and cosmology, including observing some of the most distant events and objects in the universe.
